UK Planning Minister says new system is designed to ensure renewable energy projects will be delivered
John Healey, UK Planning Minister believes that the new planning system will encourage new renewable energy projects. "We know planning is central to reducing our fossil fuel addiction and building up a new generation of renewable energy infrastructure....Decisions are taking too long under the current system and we need a more efficient and predicable system. That is why we are establishing the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) that will enable us to cut the time taken to make big decisions from up to seven years down to under a year and save the economy 300m a year"

Genwat Chairman Mark Mills welcomed the comments stating that " a reduction in the time taken to obtain planning permission is a welcome boost as we look to build and operate waste to electricity plants throughout the UK".
